Sydney Royal – 2003
We are home after a very hectic show. Lindy was able to keep going & rode her last competitive ride at the show in the Show Hunter on Thursday 24th April and led ponies on Easter Saturday and Sunday. We were quiet pleased with our results. We won 5 Reserve Champions (with Shifting, Marena Skylights and Marena Memories), 6 firsts, 7 seconds, and several other placings.
Congratulations to the following:- Ben Maytom who won 2nd in his Turnout and Riding class and went on to be Res Champ Boy Rider, his sister Jody won 7th in her Riding; Brooke Higgins from Toowoomba riding at Sydney for the first time was 6th in her riding class and with her mum Therese was placed 5th in the Parent and Child; Kier Ferrie was 4th in the Junior Judging; Jessie Castle at her first Royal with new horse Marena Shocone won 4th in the Led ASP Mare and was called in the Show Hunter; Sue Lyon’s Jefferson was 6th in the Gents Hack and Marena Faith was 4th in the ARP Mare; Kath Jones’ Vashti won 2nd in the Ridden ANSA Mare, 3rd Led ANSA, 3rd Led Warmblood and 3rd Ridden Warmblood. The versatile Maytom family, Michael, Sharon and Ben won the Teams Campdraft and Ben was 5th in the Junior Draft under 17 yrs.
Shifting won his Thoroughbred Stallion class for the 3rd time at Sydney Royal and was Reserve Champion Stallion. He was Champion last year and also in 2000. He was placed second in the ANSA Stallion and was the Reserve Champion. Shifting was Champion and Supreme Champion ANSA at Brisbane in 2002.
Marena Windflower and Marena Skylights will now retire and will go to stud with planned matings to Shifting and Cedar Park Konrad respectively.
Lindy will be taking things a little easier now as her baby is due in early June.
Bathurst Royal - Nell Evans had a very good show at Bathurst recently. She was Reserve Champion Novice Girl Rider under 17 yrs, with her horse she won Reserve Champion Novice Galloway hack and 3rd in the ASH Hack.
School dates are as yet uncertain but look for a posting soon, a lot will depend on Lindy’s new arrival. There are two Schools planned for July
Young Horse Sale continues. Thank you for your enquiries, we will continue to follow them up. Being away at Sydney Royal for almost 3 weeks has interfered with our ability to respond to your many enquiries. As a result we have decided to extend this sale until advertised stock is cleared.
Sue Lyons who owns Jefferson and Marena Faith was at Sydney Royal watching her “kids.” She had lovely time but on Easter Sunday night whilst leading her horse Mr. B, he got a fright and jumped sideways and knocked her to the ground, breaking her arm. It was extremely bad luck to end her very pleasant stay that way.
Generous Gesture. Sue Lyons’ lovely, brand new Southern Cross Country coat, after her accident, was cut up both arms and across the front by the Ambulance men. Michael & Anne Hillwood of Tasmania made a very kind and generous gesture by replacing the coat free of charge. We thank them very much as it is not often gestures like this are made. Bruce, Lindy and I all have their coats and we can heartily recommend these wonderful rainproof, light weight coats.
Bruce’s Poetry. At Sydney Royal Bruce rode Gerald O’Brien’s black stallion and recited poetry from the saddle at the very exclusive R.M. Williams Fashion Parade that was held in the Clydesdale Pavilion to which 100 invited guest were many including Lady McMahon. There was an excellent write-up on page 50 of the Sun Herald on Sunday 20/4/03 with a photo of Bruce on the horse – unfortunately he was named as Bruce Morgan!!!
