Congratulations to Mitch Hooke on his great performance on Q&A on Monday night 14th July 2013

Mitch, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Council of Australia, was a guest on ABC1 in the panel on Tony Jones Q & A and what he said made a lot of good sense.  Mitch and the Hooke Family live in Bowral on the Southern Highlands and are keen show competitors.  Their mare Sandown Matinee Idol is due to foal to our stallion Kolbeach Royal Print in September.  Idol was very successful show mare winning Champion Led ASP and Reserve Champion Ridden ASP at Canberra Royal, making Top 10 Galloway of the Year four years in a row at the NSW SHC HOY.  She finished her career by winning Ridden ASP of the at the National Pony of the Year Show at SIEC in 2012.

Their other mare Sandown Musical Note is still being shown by Lindy and has been very successfully in her first three years of showing winning Best Novice Galloway, Champion Led Galloway Mare, Reserve Champion Led ANSA Mare and Open Galloway at her first Canberra Royal. In 2011 and 2012 Musical Note won Led ASP of the Year at the National Pony of the Year Show at SIEC. At Sydney Royal 2013 Musical Note won Supreme Led ASP, Canberra Royal her Open Galloway class.

Another new horse on the scene is a stunning black Australian Stock Horse gelding, Lone Pine Jackmen purchased by Sarah Hooke recently that Sarah intends to show herself in the Australian Stockhorse ring..  Sarah & Jackmen are pictured with Mitch Hooke at right on the day they purchased him.

Getting ready for the new Stud Season; bookings are being taken now.  See full details in Stallions at Stud

Kolbeach Royal Print - Our Premier stallion (pictured at right) will be standing again this year.  It is always an anxious wait when a new stallion joins the Stud to see if his progeny live up to expectations.  Royal has proved a great addition to our breeding programme, putting top quality foals on the ground that have extraordinary movement.  His oldest foals are rising two years and some are being prepared for sale.

Royal Print continues to go from strength to strength as he matures, he turns six on the Horse’s Birthday which is 1st August for all horses.  He has been only lightly shown and won Supreme Champions at the last two Shows; Gosford and St. Ives - Stud Fee $1,500.

Cedar Lodge Konrad  - Our senior stallion – at 24 years of age still going strong.  This beautiful pony has produced top ponies for us and hopefully will continue to do so for years to come.  His bookings will be limited and his Service Fee is $440.

Kolbeach Scandal the bay stallion that we bought at the same time as Royal from Kolbeach Stud in South Australia, breed some very good fillies for future breeding has now been gelded.  He is a fantastic horse to ride and is now in our programme to show and sell as a pony under saddle.

Marena Salute – our Warmblood stallion is still waiting for a special person to come along to buy him.  Salute is a good, sound and healthy condition and would make a good competition horse and a sire to breed Warmbloods or in a cross breeding programme to breed sports horses or station horses for a property.

Following inquires from possible purchasers, we have consulted a vet and he could be gelded quite successfully if desired.  We have him for sale to a good home at the bargain price of $5,000.

The Talbot Family (pictured at right - Jay, Bronte, Alexa & Karren) have been looking for a new pony for Alexa since her pony Mr Darcy was sold to Kununurra in Western Australia.  It is strange that they have found a new pony and he came from Western Australia!  There was much excitement here on Sunday when the eagerly awaited pony arrived at Marena Stud.  A bay gelding, 13.3 hands Glomax Jazzman is a beautiful pony who is now resting after his several day journey from Perth.  He has been a very successful pony in the West and we are all looking forward to showing him in the spring.

Alexa has been having lessons on him and everything is going so well and he has been a perfect gentleman.

Vale Marena Sweet Kiss

There was sadness at Marena Stud when our beautiful old pony mare Marena Sweet Kiss passed on.

Well-known on the show scene for many years, she was a safe ride for many young riders for their first ride in a Royal Show including Emma Gittoes when she won Reserve Champion Junior Girl Rider at Sydney Royal - at Bottom Right.

We broke and trained Sweet Kiss and when she was two years we loaned her to 3 y.o. Rhiannon Lindley to ride for some years.  Joanne Stollery (nee Parry) went on with her training training and won many Champions on Sweetie who had sensational movement and always gave of her best.

When she came back to us to breed from she went back in the showring because there was always another child that needed a dependable pony.  this was a tragedy for Sweetie because as a result she was put to Stud too late and did not produce a foal.

Bronte Talbot Jesse Cooper Lara Timmis

Our Saddle Club days with Sport and Recreation are always popular during  the school holidays.
Structured as a safe introduction to horses, children can also experience the farm way of life.  Over the years many have found a love for horses through these days and have become our pupils for further lessons

Bookings for these days are made through the Ourimbah Campus on (02) 4362 3184.

Marena Show pics

Our annual Marena Show was held on Saturday 13th July.  The show is open to all our active pupils from young to the not so young.  This gives the pupils that do not frequent shows a chance to sample competition and the preparations required to compete.  A good time was had by all as the pictures show.

There were many and varied events, ribbons were given to 3rd place and all points were added to a point score in each age group.  Winners of the Champion and Reserve in the Point Scores are pictured below.

We are very grateful to the local Saddlerys ,Saddleworld and Horseland of Tuggerah that once again supported our Marena Show with trophies, through their generosity every child when home with a prize.
