Christmas season is here.
Vale Cedar Lodge Konrad
The 7th of November was a very sad day for us when in spite of the efforts of everyone at Marena Stud we lost our smallest stallion Cedar Lodge Konrad.
How sad it is when one of our beloved stallions pass on, they get old and we must expect to lose them but it seems to happen when we least expect it, certainly with Konrad who looked a picture of shiny health and vigour, when he was struck down with colic.
When I first saw Konrad, at Brisbane Royal, I was struck by his exceptional beauty, classy conformation and temperament. Enquiries revealed that he was owned and shown by an elderly couple who were enjoying remarkable success with him. They had won 34 Supreme Champions with him in breed and open company - a remarkable effort for a pony only 11.2 hands high. He was broken to harness and shown under saddle as well.
I was reluctant to take away their pleasure of showing him so came home without making an offer, but I could not get that brown beauty out of my mind. Eventually his owner, Peter McEwan, contacted me and said he was ready to sell him to me and soon Konrad was on his way to Marena Stud.
It was a very good move for us and we were privileged to own him for 15 years. He produced wonderful children’s ponies for us including Royal Show winners and State Champions including Marena Amber Wish, Marena Valour, Marena Sunline, Marena Conair, Marena Concerto, Marena Amber Gift, Marena Morning Star and Marena Amber Brave.
We have a couple of mares in foal to Konrad so we are eagerly awaiting their foals’ arrival.

With our recent downsizing and the loss of Konrad means we are back to only one resident stallion just 59 years after we started on our breeding programme with our wonderful thoroughbred stallion Kalimah.
It is an exciting time of the year with the foals arriving and Kolbeach Royal Print is quickly establishing himself as a very prepotent sire. They are all stamped indelibly by him and their temperament is superb.
Marena Firedance was purchased in foal to Kolbeach Royal Print by Meg Gosset at our Reduction Auction in December last year for her grandson Samuel who has riding lessons here and is aiming to begin showing in the new year. The colt foal is pictured at right.

We have decided this year to breed some of our Aust, Stockhorse mares to an ASH stallion based in Queensland, Ervine’s Rollex. This means using chilled semen and we are thrilled with the level of care we are receiving from Amanda Shoobridge at Revelwood Stud.
Over the Holidays
The Christmas Two Day School will be held on Friday 20th & Saturday 21st December. As usual we have our annual Christmas Party for those who attend this Christmas School.
January School dates to be set very soon. Please contact us for details.
Lessons – We will be holding lessons over the school holidays from 13th January 2014 and bookings are necessary. Regular lesson times will commence again when school resumes in 2014.
Our very popular guest Instructor Allan Wallen will visit us again in January on 17th, 18th & 19th. Allan manages the horse section and training of horses and students at Emerald College in Queensland so it is a great privilege to have this celebrated rider and trainer at Marena Stud for a working horse Clinic.
There are still a few spots available, contact Lindy on 0418 433 710 for bookings.
New Agistment and Stables available
We are now offering a new option for riders wishing to care for their own horses which include a stable with yard attached. Advantages include all weather sand arenas, close to forest trails, a tick free, quiet environment and storage space as well as riding lessons if required.
Our usual agistment is available for all kinds of horses from youngsters to show horses, those being prepared for sale or those precious old friends that need special care.
As you may remember from our last News we told the sad story of losing Sandown Matinee Idol . Her beautiful foal has continued to prosper and his foster mother has done a good job on him as can be seen by this photo. The pair have now gone home to the Hooke’s property in Bowral. This stunning colt is by Kolbeach Royal Print and the Hooke family have named him Royal Finale as he was Idol's last foal.
This year may have gone quickly but we have all been busy, our pupils and horses have been successful at the shows and we have enjoyed watching the progress and happiness of our pupils. Knowing you is a great privilege to us and we hope you have enjoyed your year with us.
All at Marena Stud hope you have a great Christmas and we look forward to seeing you again in the New Year.
Love and best wishes
