NEWSLETTER – AUTUMN, 2005
We have been very busy since Christmas time. Our spring Clearance Sale was very successful and Marena horses have been sold to Tasmania, West Aust., South Aust., Victoria, Queensland and, of course, NSW. We have received lots of emails and letters from people who are very happy with their Marena horses.
Golden Wedding - Bruce and I celebrated 50 years of marriage on 8/1/05 helped by friends from all over that period with some of them coming from Qld., Sth Aust and West Aust. It was wonderful to have pupils there from the very early days when Bruce and I used to teach at Pony Club in the 1960’s, Gabbi Hollows and Janine Hingstrom, and young ladies that we have taught more recently like Kier Ferrie, Kristy Nichols and Tanya Edwards.
We regret to say that we will be loosing Tanya after Sydney show. Tanya has decided to go back to small animal veterinary nursing and we wish her all the best. She is just completing a horse vet nursing course she started when she came with us. Kristy is commencing the same course and we wish her good luck with it. Kier Ferrie, long time pupil at Marena Stud, is still at the University in Hawkesbury doing her Agricultural course.
We have had lovely rain and it is a delight to see the paddocks so green after the long dry conditions of recent years. Our 2004 foals look wonderful – It is a lovely time of year to see the little ones developing and growing and taking their first steps toward independence.
LAND FOR SALE - We are offering part of our property for sale, a parklike 30 acres of prime agricultural land where we usually keep our fillies so we must reduce our numbers of horses.
HORSE SALE - Our “I See Stars” Catalogue of horses for Sale is out now in the last step of our reduction sale. The horses included in this sale are very top quality and some are being broken in and trained now ready to offer. The list includes ponies, galloways and hacks from 12 hds, aged from yearlings to six years. Some foals will also be offered if your wish is to watch your horse grow up and perhaps show it as a youngster.
Many pupils wish to own their own horse. We recommend restraint in this department. Beginners certainly could not manage their own horse as there is too much to learn - balance, safety, control and horse care. The up-shot of purchasing a horse before you are ready for it will be staying at the same level, or even worse, going backwards and loosing confidence as well as the danger of an accident if the horse is too advanced for the rider.
No one knows better than the teacher, what a pupil needs. We, your teachers, know you best, what standards you are at and the horse most suitable for your needs.
PLEASE consult us if you are thinking of buying a horse. We know what is suitable for you age, purpose and experience.
Many of our most successful riders have gone through all stages, even riding at Royal Shows and interstate on our horses, never owning a horse of their own. They become part of our show team and have access to the best horses that they love as their own.
There is so much to learn beside how to sit on a horse, that is, learning to ride a horse for comfort, safety and control, keep up your lessons, there are some wonderful exciting things ahead to learn.
Grand National Marena Sweet Kiss will be competing at this year’s Grand National at Horsley Park Equestrian Centre on Sunday 12th & 13th March ridden by Sarah McMillan in the Show Hunter championship. Also competing will be Nell Evans and her mare Thompsons Destiny in the Galloway Show Hunter. Brooke Higgins will have two ponies there, one of them, Marena Flare, will be in the Show hunter too. Marena Flare’s mother, Marena Amber Folly, won The Grand National title three years in a row for us when she was competing. We wish them all the best of luck.
Sydney Royal We will be leaving for Sydney on Monday 14/3/05 and will be returning on Easter Sunday
We are taking eight horses to Sydney this tear and will be helped by, Kath Jones, Tanya Edwards, Gittan Inglis, Rosa Hollows, Kristie Nicholls, Jarrod Ashbrook, Alex Keith and Nikki Melrose.

Gosford Agricultural Show is on the 16th and 17th April ’05 - Central Coast & Lower Hunter Assoc. will be running the horse section again this year. Many of our pupils will be competing there so it might be a good place to go and see your friends in action. Also, any parents who would like to volunteer your help would be greatly appreciated. Lindy will not be competing there this year as her baby girl is due on 19th April.
Canberra Royal – We did not compete at Canberra in February this year because of Lindy’s baby on the way, but the Evans Family Andrea, Gary, Nell and Will kept the flag flying.
Marena Memories won first in the Mare Hack for the second year in a row.
Nell Evans, with Thompson Destiny, won the Hunter Under Saddle for the third year in a row and Ridden ASH, Rider under 17 years .
